They understand the fundamental drivers, market trends, different cultures and practices of the value chain segments and geographies they invest in, making them a formidable force in their chosen market.

They are currently seeking to appoint a Financial Accountant in a broad, commercially focused role.

The Role

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer and working with the finance team, you will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day finance functions across a portfolio of entities within the Group. The Financial Accountant monitors the profitability of the portfolio's entities and oversees and manages the end-to-end financial functions to ensure accurate compilation of month end and other reporting data, including assisting with the budgeting process, delivering insightful management reports and recommendations, and proactively identifying process improvements.

The duties and responsibilities of the role will include but not be limited to:-

  • Attend to financial operations including financial accounting, transaction processing, financial management reporting, statutory reporting and regulatory compliance.
  • Prepare and present site/entity and consolidated financial reports including P&L, Balance Sheet, operating results, cash flow forecast and KPI reporting, including associated written analysis required for these reports.
  • Work with a team of finance staff, including AP/AR, to deliver accurate financial reports.
  • Ensure the accurate and efficient entry of data into the designated financial package.
  • Ensure compliance with the relevant Delegation of Authority with respect to all financial processes.
  • Manage cost recoveries, intercompany charges, transactions, commercial revenue and recoveries, loan repayments and interest charge calculations.
  • Ensure month-end accounting processes are managed and deadlines are met.
  • Maintain company asset registers.
  • Preparation of detailed financial analysis of business and project performance using key drivers and metrics.
  • Preparation of financial commentary for Board reporting.
  • Liaise with operational staff in relation to administrative and bookkeeping input into the financial processes and provide training and support, as required.
  • Monitor debtors and management of the debt collection process.
  • Contribute to the preparation of annual budgets, periodic forecasts and strategic planning.
  • Prepare and administer periodic returns & related compliance matters for GST, PAYG Withholding and ABS reporting.
  • Manage audit and tax activities, liaising with external accountants and auditors as required.
  • Manage internal and external accounting activities and ensure accounting initiatives and management actions are implemented within the agreed timeframes.

About you

This is a very hands-on position best suited to an aspiring finance leader that knows a role harnessing the foundational elements of their core accounting education and training is important to this as well as future employers. The better you understand the overall workings of a business, and how you and your team fit into the "big picture," the more productive your relationships outside your department will be and this role is vital in that developmental aspect for aspiring Finance Business Partners and Commercial Managers.

Someone from a Big 4 or chartered background, whether it be prior experience or current public practice experience, is highly desirable.

Skills & Experience

  • CA/CPA qualified
  • Experience providing management reports, analysing profitability and progress against budget
  • Big 4 or chartered accounting background desirable
  • Involvement in the preparation of financial statements
  • Track record or the ability to work with Operational Managers to prepare budgets and help them understand the key drivers of their business
  • Experience with Investment Funds and Managed Assets
  • Ability to build strong relationships with key stakeholders and manage custodial relationships
  • Eye for detail and enjoyment of complex work
