The Opportunity:

Our client is a well-known company within the commercial and industrial Construction sector along the east coast of Australia. They are well known for their values based culture, and the inclusive culture where people tend to have longer tenures, better growth opportunities and making an impact through innovation. Although things have been tougher for some companies in this sector, our client has weathered the storm, and continuing to win more tenders and business.

They are currently seeking someone to join their Health and Safety team, to support a small number of teams/sites. Typically they are based centrally in Metropolitan Melbourne, but this varies from project to project.

Key responsibilities for this role is continuing to understanding and mitigating the key physical and psycho-social risks within the business, across the dynamic nature of the worksites and teams.

While the team is on a journey of Safety culture and your goal is to coach and advise, you are the type of person that likes to educate and grow the skill within the team. That will also mean jumping in boots and all, getting your hands dirty (and similar clichés that mean some level of "doing").

You will also be working with Senior Leaders across the business, meaning you understand the value of tailoring your communication to the audience, bringing passion and compelling communication to the role. This operational role will have you thinking on your feet, prioritising well and needs someone who brings energy and an inquisitive approach to ask good questions.

Being part of a broader Health and Safety function, you will get the opportunity to contribute to broader projects, bringing many chances to learn and grow professionally through mentoring and working in areas of strong interest. You don't have to have "Construction Safety" experience to get your foot in the door here - transitioning into this great sector will bring many opportunities (and for years to come!).

Your experience will ideally include:

  • A few years of experience in a health and safety function - growing and learning through asking good questions and learning from more experienced professionals.
  • An open personality that can engage with, and build strong stakeholder relationships across all parts of a construction company
  • Maturity to work in an independent role
  • A curious mindset, not only identifying key risks, but also having recommendations and ideas to suit the situation.
  • Formal qualifications in Workplace Health and Safety (Diploma minimum, but Advanced Diploma or Degree preferred)

The Rewards:

This is an excellent opportunity to transition into the dynamic construction sector - bringing your unique skills and experience, but then able to propel your career forward in a strong learning environment. There is a strong and connected culture - which allows you to partner with the business to make an impact.
