Job description

HSW Advisor / HSW Consultant

Love safety, but tired of being stuck behind a desk?

We're looking for a people-focused Health, Safety & Wellbeing professional to step into a highly visible role supporting world-class research, laboratory and operational environments. This is your opportunity to influence safety culture where work actually happens while partnering with academics, researchers, technicians and leaders to create safer, smarter ways of working.

What's in it for you?

✅ True business partnering role - build trusted relationships and influence outcomes

✅ Diverse, high-risk environments including laboratories, research and teaching spaces

✅ Safety-II approach focused on learning, engagement and enabling success

✅ Opportunity to make a genuine impact on safety, wellbeing and culture

✅ Competitive salary package with flexible contract arrangements available

What you'll be doing

  • Partnering with stakeholders to provide practical, solutions-focused HSW advice
  • Supporting risk assessments, hazard management and safe systems of work
  • Facilitating incident investigations with a learning-focused, continuous improvement mindset
  • Building capability and strengthening safety culture through coaching and engagement
  • Working directly with teams in operational environments rather than from behind a desk
  • Contributing to wellbeing, risk and safety initiatives across a large and complex organisation

About you

You'll be an experienced WHS/HSW professional who enjoys building relationships and influencing positive change. You thrive in complex environments, communicate with credibility, and bring a practical approach to risk management.

You may come from:

  • Research, laboratory or scientific environments
  • Universities or higher education
  • Healthcare or hospitals
  • Manufacturing or regulated industries
  • Government or large complex organisations

The ideal candidate

  • 3+ years' experience in a WHS/HSW advisory, partnering or consulting role
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills
  • Experience supporting risk management, investigations and safety initiatives
  • A collaborative, solutions-oriented mindset
  • Qualifications in WHS, OHS or a related discipline highly regarded
If you're passionate about creating safer workplaces through influence, collaboration and visible leadership, we'd love to hear from you.
