A large Government department in Melbourne, is looking to engage with a Senior Project Manager. This role is a 6 month contract role with high possibility of extension. The Senior Project manager will ensure the successful delivery of assigned projects. The position will define the project's strategic direction and plans, and effectively manage and lead the project team, resources, stakeholders and suppliers. Projects will be delivered with the required products and within the constraints of quality, time and cost.

Main responsibilities of the role:

  • Manage and lead the delivery of major projects and initiatives in relation to time, cost, scope and quality. This may include major business case development, undertaking strategic assessments, managing organisational change, and implementing ICT solutions.
  • Establish effective stakeholder relationships and communication channels, using informal and formal methods of communication, including the preparation of complex reports, briefings and presentations to influence senior stakeholders to achieve project objectives.

  • Implement and utilise appropriate project management controls in line with the department's project management excellence (PME) framework, including:

o project governance and reporting (including Gateway Reviews where required)
o project planning, scheduling and development of work packages
o project risk and issue management
o project quality and change management
o project cost/budget management, including monitoring project expenditure and resource utilisation
o developing and maintaining project management and communication artefacts
o project progress reporting
o project information and records management

  • Managing the production, release, evaluation and selection of request for tenders, including:

o production of specification of procurement requirements according to project objectives
o procurement sourcing activities and procurement evaluation
o contract negotiation and eventual approval
o subsequent management of contracts to achieve agreed contract objectives
o managing the production and acceptance of contract deliverables

A must have:

  • Demonstrated experience successfully managing SaaS (ideally Salesforce) technology projects utilising hybrid agile methodologies in an environment of strong project governance.
  • Experience in managing delivery at pace in a mixed team comprising a lead System Integrator vendor, business stakeholders who are new to Agile delivery concepts and internal project resources (such as Business Analysts, Testers, etc.
