Job description
Overview
We are seeking a hands‑on Technical Project Coordinator with experience in smart meters (hardware) and associated software systems to support a range of active and emerging initiatives within our Network Intelligence function.
This role has been created in response to a high volume of concurrent activity currently being managed by BAU teams. The successful contractor will bring structure, coordination, and governance across multiple workstreams and act as a key delivery support function for smart metering initiatives.
The role sits on the business side, working closely with IT, vendors, field operations, and internal stakeholders, and requires sufficient technical depth to critically assess information, assumptions, and commercial proposals.
Key Responsibilities
Program & Delivery Coordination
- Consolidate existing project material, documentation, and artefacts into a single coherent view
- Establish and maintain an overall program plan, including timeline, phases, milestones, and dependencies
- Coordinate multiple concurrent smart metering initiatives and "mini‑projects"
Smart Metering Initiatives
- Support meter and system tender activities, including:
- Requirements gathering
- Development of tender evaluation criteria
- Coordinate field trials, evaluation frameworks, and assessment of outcomes
- Support initiatives focused on automation of manual processes
Governance & Risk Management
- Establish and maintain a project governance framework
- Develop and manage a Risk Management Plan, addressing:
- Technology risk
- Resourcing risk
- Material and supply chain risk
- Identify and track controls and mitigation strategies
Reporting & Business Support
- Support business case development and preparation of executive slide packs
- Produce weekly / fortnightly status reports and progress dashboards
- Track risks, issues, decisions, actions, and dependencies
Stakeholder & Meeting Coordination
- Coordinate meetings, workshops, and forums
- Prepare agendas, take minutes, document actions, and follow up to ensure timely closure
- Act as a central point of coordination across business, IT, and delivery partners
About You
Essential Experience & Skills
- Experience working on smart metering / AMI initiatives, ideally within a utility or energy environment
- Exposure to metering hardware and supporting software systems
- Experience supporting or coordinating:
- Tenders and vendor evaluations
- Field trials or pilot programs
- Strong organisational and coordination skills across multiple workstreams
- Ability to work effectively across business and IT teams
Technical Capability
- Technically credible, with the confidence to:
- Challenge vendor inputs, assumptions, and pricing
- Identify inconsistencies, delivery risks, or weak commercial positions
- Comfortable working in complex, fast‑moving environments
Desirable
- Experience within a DNSP or regulated utility
- Exposure to meter data management systems (MDMS)
- Experience supporting digital transformation or process automation initiatives
