Are you looking to take your Communications and Media career to the next level? Our client is a Federal Government Agency, seeking their next high performing member to join their team on an initial 6-month temporary assignment, with opportunity to further extend.

Please note, applicants are required to be an Australian Citizen and be willing to undergo an AGSVA Baseline Security Clearance.

Purpose of the position

The Senior Communications Advisor assists in developing and implementing external communications strategies aligned with the agency's value propositions and strategic direction - creating tailored communications and supporting awareness-raising activities to raise the agency's profile.

As the Senior Communications advisor, you will support the EL1 Assistant Director, and Director, to lead external communications strategies, implementing the operational corporate communications including social media strategy. You will be responsible for partnering with key business areas as well as preparing social media content, media releases, and responding to media enquiries.

The Team

The team is predominantly based in Adelaide and Melbourne office locations; however, flexible ways of working are open to applications that can be based in Canberra, Sydney, and Brisbane office locations. Supporting numerous business areas regarding communications and media, you'll be exposed to multiple business areas, groups, and functions.

Key accountabilities

  • Lead the development, implementation and measurement of external communication strategies and plans to support the agency's strategic direction and transformation programs.
  • Develop material to support communications activities, including tailoring content to different external stakeholders and translating dense materials into plain English and visuals.
  • Write and edit a range of external communication materials, including media releases, newsletter content, emails, social media posts and web content, and ensure content is useful, easy to understand and tailored to users' needs.
  • Manage the production of printed and online publications - including writing and editing content, working closely internal stakeholders, and managing external contracts and suppliers (including editing and printing services).
  • Assist in developing digital and print communication materials (with the assistance of designers where appropriate).
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of communication approaches by conducting and analysing research as needed and contributing to regular team reports.
  • Assist with managing resources and work processes to ensure a high standard of governance and efficient management, including cost-effective use of resources.
  • Build and maintain effective networks and relationships with agency staff at all levels.

Skills and Capabilities

  • Tertiary qualification/s in Communications or related fields or equivalent experience (essential)
  • At least three years of experience in external communications
  • Evidence of responsibility for developing, implementing, and delivering communication strategies and campaigns (essential)
  • Ability to obtain a baseline security clearance
