This large Federal Government agency requires and experienced Developer to join the Terminology and Tooling team on a 12-month contract with the potential to extend. The team's vision is to improve the delivery of healthcare through the realisation of the benefits of clinical terminology by simplifying its adoption and increasing its meaningful use.

Reporting to the Director Terminology and Tooling, you will take responsibility for ensuring the platform and applications owned by the Terminology and Tooling Section are operated and maintained efficiently and proactively; and working with the team to design and implement incremental change to the platform. This includes working with ICT and Cyber Security Teams to ensure services required of other teams are maintained and the deployment of applications meets with compliance requirements.

You will be responsible for the following, but not limited to:

  • Work in a small, specialised team; demonstrate a willingness to contribute to and learn from the collective skillsets of other developers and team members.
  • Proactive management and operation of Tooling Section platforms and deployed applications, for example, monitoring, patch management, backup management, management of expiring resources (certificates, system credentials etc.) in a timely manner.
  • Deploy new application versions and/or content in line with planned release management.
  • 2nd/3rd tier support, particularly application outages.
  • Continuous improvement of the management and operation of Tooling Section platforms and deployed applications.
  • Liaise and coordinate with the ICT Team to ensure continuity through changes to supporting infrastructure managed by ICT.
  • Liaise and coordinate with the Cyber Security Team to ensure the platform and deployment of applications meets security requirements.
  • Collaborate with team members on design, testing and implementation of enhancements and modifications to the platform and application deployment to support business objectives.
  • Maintenance of as built platform/application deployment documentation, and operations documentation.
  • Participate in project work according to SCRUM and Prince2 (where required) methodologies.
  • Provide support to the Clinical Terminology team by identifying solutions to evolving requirements and as needed technical assistance for release processes.
  • Support colleagues to develop quality software.
  • Ensure the stability and quality of the production authoring and distribution systems.
  • Ensure technical integrity of monthly terminology releases.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provide technical expertise to applications staff in the configuration, testing and implementation of new/enhanced software systems and other related advice, technical directions, and consultancy.
  • Work with Product Support team to develop and deliver technical and implementation resources and support for vendors, health jurisdictions and other customers.
  • Ad hoc Windows Server update / SQL database support to other developer teams within the branch (where skills appropriate).
  • Follow all Agency policies, procedures and instructions and take reasonable care for your own health, safety and wellbeing in the workplace.

To be successful you will possess the following:

  • Bachelor Degree or Masters in Computer Science, Software Engineering or related field
  • SCRUM certification (desirable)
  • Managing and operating public facing production AWS hosted applications
  • Using Amazon Web Services and cloud infrastructure, for example, EC2, ELB, RDS, OpsWorks etc.
  • Continuous integration environments and unit testing
  • Developing and deploying infrastructure as code and deployment scripting, for example, CloudFormation, Terraform, Chef etc.
  • Deploying and operating microservice based applications
  • Production Java Enterprise (J2EE) systems development
  • Software configuration management systems
  • Developing Web applications
  • Using Linux system administration, virtualised environments and source control (primarily Git)
  • Implementing, managing and operating deployments within ISM
  • Establishing and working within quality software development processes
  • Agile development methodologies
  • Using Maven
  • Using and administering Azure Active Directory
  • Using Atlassian development tool suite
  • Using MySQL/Hibernate/Solr
  • Using JBoss/Wildfly application server
  • Developing RESTful web services
  • Designing within and implementing n-tier, service orientated architectures
  • Knowledge and understanding of the healthcare IT domain, particularly in systems interoperability.
  • FHIR, particularly the FHIR Terminology Service
  • Manage Windows Server Updates (optional)
  • Spin up new instances of Windows Servers (optional)
  • Manage SQL Databases (optional)
