This company has exclusively partnered with Safesearch to recruit a senior Health and Safety Manager to join them in early 2022. The company is a large and successful company that plays key roles in infrastructure projects. They partner with government, principal and other contractors, ensuring smooth delivery of construction and infrastructure projects.

In Australia, they have a footprint in most states and territories.

The role is significant in the way that it will continue to lead Safety innovation - and partnering with senior leadership teams across all of the stakeholder companies.

About the Role

Located centrally in Melbourne, this role, will work in partnership and oversight with several Principal contractors and Joint ventures to enable successful delivery of multiple projects. Taking significant communication expertise, probably built across a number of sectors, this role takes a key role in coordination and connection between parties, and enabling of governance models.

Reporting into a Group Health and Safety Manager, this Health and Safety role will be important in building culture and safe outcomes across significant projects. This will mostly through collaboration with multiple parties and influencing, rather than direct authority. This Manager will utilise their communication and influencing skills to navigate client and stakeholder (internal and external) relationships to achieve common goals. As with many similar projects - this project will present some fantastic challenges, both technically and operationally that are unique to this kind of infrastructure works.

The Person

To be successful in this role, this person will be a seasoned Health and Safety professional that has worked in a variety of settings. While you are technically proficient, your best skillset is your ability to work among complex operating models and stakeholders (internal and external). You are able to simplify the big questions, and achieving the best safety performance.

As with all large scale projects with multiple parties, you must be comfortable and confident working in ambiguous environments. And understand the contracted nature of clients/contractors and partnering together to achieve a common goal.

In particular:

  • Experience in Health and Safety leadership in large scale and high risk work environments. A suitable person might come from a similar setting in a different sector, such as mining, oil and gas, construction etc.
  • A demonstrated understanding of the Australian regulatory and industrial environment
  • Must bring strong leadership experience (10+ years Health and Safety leadership will help to develop the right skillset and abilities)
  • Demonstrable excellent stakeholder management - internal, contractors etc
  • The ability to contribute towards strategy and change, and to work through the team for execution of program and change
  • Participate in and provide guidance to contractors and stakeholders during onsite safety engagements, inspections, audits and the like
  • Relevant WHS/Safety qualification
  • Having a good sense of humour wouldn't hurt either
