About the team:
Join the Victorian State Government on a 6-month temporary assignment opportunity at the VPS6 level. We are seeking a highly skilled and proactive Senior Strategic Sourcing Specialist to contribute to the success of our department. This role offers an hourly rate of $80 - $95 per hour plus super.
Position Purpose:
As a Senior Strategic Sourcing Specialist, you will play a pivotal role in managing departmental strategic sourcing activities. This includes developing and owning sourcing strategies, supplier relationship strategies, and associated policies and processes. The successful candidate will lead negotiations, drive value creation opportunities, and ensure the seamless availability of products and services to support departmental objectives.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage high-risk, high-value strategic procurements across all business units and procurement categories, ensuring compliance with government policies.
- Manage all phases of the procurement process, from market research to contract completion, ensuring value for money.
- Identify, engage, and collaborate with subject matter experts, including probity advisors, legal services, and risk and insurance advisors.
- Provide expert sourcing advice in line with Victorian Government State Purchase Contracts and departmental policies.
- Establish and maintain strong working relationships with key suppliers and stakeholders.
- Represent the Procurement team on department committees and Whole of Victorian Government forums.
- Mentor and encourage professional growth and development around procurement processes.
Key Selection Criteria:
Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or master's degree in a relevant discipline (highly desirable).
- Demonstrated knowledge of procurement practices, including the application of Victorian Government Purchasing Board guidelines.
- 7-10 years' experience in managing end-to-end major sourcing events.
Skills and Attributes:
- Proactive and detail-focused with solutions thinking.
- Strong leadership skills with commercial, analytical, presentation, and negotiation skills.
- Ability to develop and maintain strategic relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to represent the department in various forums.
- Commitment to cultural safety, creating environments free from racism and discrimination.
