OHS Business Partner

Full‑Time | Multi‑Site | Melbourne

Are you an OHS professional who thrives in diverse environments, enjoys building strong relationships, and wants to make a meaningful impact across a purpose‑driven organisation?
This role offers an exciting opportunity to shape the safety culture of two unique sites that bring together staff, volunteers, visitors and community every day.

You'll lead safety initiatives across beautifully maintained gardens, open landscapes, scientific operations and public‑facing environments; a role where no two days look alike.

Why This Role Stands Out

  • Work across inspiring, nature‑rich environments where your contribution genuinely supports wellbeing and safety.
  • Influence leaders and teams at all levels, bringing modern safety thinking to a diverse organisation.
  • Drive improvement initiatives, enhance systems and uplift OHS capability across varied operational settings.
  • Join a values‑driven workplace centred around learning, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

What You'll Be Doing

As the OHS Business Partner, you'll be the go‑to expert for all safety‑related matters, balancing strategic input with hands‑on support. Your key responsibilities include:

Leadership & Advisory

  • Provide clear, practical OHS advice to executives, managers, staff and volunteers across multi‑site operations.
  • Support leaders in embedding safe systems of work and fostering proactive safety behaviours.

Incident Management

  • Lead the end‑to‑end process for all OHS incidents, ensuring timely logging, investigation and close‑out.
  • Manage responses to critical incidents and liaise with relevant regulators when required.

Capability Building

  • Design and deliver engaging safety training programs that build organisational awareness and confidence.
  • Promote strong reporting practices and a positive, collaborative safety culture.

Return‑to‑Work Coordination

  • Act as the RTW Coordinator, partnering with insurers, managers and employees to support safe, sustainable return‑to‑work plans.

Risk & Compliance

  • Conduct regular safety audits, hazard identification and risk assessments, including psychosocial risk reviews.
  • Maintain and enhance safety policies, documents and procedures in line with legislation and organisational needs.

Projects & Improvements

  • Lead key OHS projects, including the relaunch and embedding of the Contractor Management System.
  • Champion continuous improvement initiatives that drive safety innovation and long‑term cultural uplift.

Reporting & Insights

  • Deliver accurate, meaningful safety reporting to leadership, including trend analysis and recommendations for action.

What You'll Bring

  • Tertiary qualifications (or equivalent experience) in Occupational Health & Safety or a related discipline.
  • Strong experience in OHS leadership or advisory roles within multi‑site or complex operational environments.
  • Demonstrated experience with incident investigations and regulatory engagement.
  • Previous Return‑to‑Work Coordinator experience.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder skills able to influence, coach and adapt to a wide variety of audiences.
  • Strong analytical and reporting capability, with proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to work independently with sound judgement, prioritisation and initiative.
  • A valid driver's licence and ability to travel between sites.

Ready to Make an Impact?

If you're passionate about safety, motivated by meaningful work, and excited by the idea of partnering across diverse teams and environments, we'd love to hear from you.
