Job description
A leading pharmaceutical manufacturing site is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to oversee all engineering, maintenance and utilities operations. This role leads capital planning, maintenance reliability, automation, energy management and facilities services while supporting continuous improvement, technical projects and site strategic priorities.
As a key member of the Site Leadership team, you will ensure safe, compliant and reliable operations across a fast-paced GMP environment. This is a senior role suited to an engineering professional with strong leadership capability and deep experience in regulated manufacturing.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering and Capital Projects
Develop capital investment strategies and multi-year plans aligned to site priorities
Prepare and manage capital project applications, budgets and delivery schedules
Ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, on budget and to defined quality requirements
Maintenance and Reliability
Lead the maintenance function, including policy development, scheduling and execution
Implement reliability-centred maintenance programs to maximise asset uptime
Oversee maintenance systems, CMMS compliance and spare parts strategy
Utilities and Facilities Operations
Manage all site utilities including boilers, chillers, compressed air and wastewater treatment
Ensure reliable and compliant operation of critical utilities serving GMP production
Drive sustainability initiatives and energy management programs
Oversee site facilities including buildings, grounds, security and contractors
Compliance and Continuous Improvement
Ensure engineering, maintenance and facilities activities comply with GMP, EHS and regulatory standards
Lead root cause investigations, corrective actions and risk assessments
Support process optimisation, technical transfers and new product introductions
Apply operational excellence tools to improve reliability, safety and cost performance
Leadership and Team Development
Lead, mentor and develop a multidisciplinary engineering team
Build capability through structured training, coaching and development plans
Manage departmental budgets and ensure responsible control of engineering expenditure
Provide leadership to colleagues supporting global engineering and technology initiatives
Skills and Experience Required
Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline
Minimum 10 years engineering experience in manufacturing environments (pharmaceutical or GMP preferred)
Proven leadership experience with responsibility for engineering, maintenance and utilities
Strong knowledge of GMP, quality systems, EHS principles and regulatory requirements
Demonstrated experience in capital project management and maintenance reliability programs
Strong understanding of utilities operations including wastewater, steam, HVAC and compressed air
Highly organised, analytical and comfortable managing multiple priorities under tight deadlines
Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence technical and non-technical stakeholders
Demonstrated capability in continuous improvement and operational excellence
