Operations Manager - Start-Up Distribution Centre

Drive performance, lead teams, and help build a brand-new logistics operation
Are you an experienced operations leader who thrives in fast-paced, high-volume logistics environments? We're looking for a hands-on Operations Manager to play a key role in launching and running a brand-new distribution centre for a major international logistics provider.
This is an incredible opportunity to help build an operation from the ground up - shaping processes, leading teams, and driving operational excellence in a modern, high-growth, technology-enabled environment.

About the Role

As the Operations Manager, you will lead the day-to-day execution of warehouse activities across inbound, outbound, inventory, fulfilment, and customer service functions. You will support the Site Manager in establishing workflows, developing the team, and ensuring the site meets operational, safety, and customer service standards.
This role combines strategic thinking with hands-on leadership, making it ideal for someone who enjoys building teams, solving problems, and driving continuous improvement in a dynamic operational environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead daily warehouse operations across receiving, put-away, replenishment, picking, dispatch, and order fulfilment.
  • Support the full start-up setup including process design, layout optimisation, equipment deployment, and ramp-up planning.
  • Build, manage, and develop a high-performing operations team across multiple shifts.
  • Drive operational KPIs including productivity, accuracy, throughput, cost, and service levels.
  • Ensure strong safety standards, compliance, and risk management across all warehouse activities.
  • Monitor performance, analyse data, and implement improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and reduce cost/waste.
  • Collaborate closely with internal support teams (HR, IT, Quality, Inventory, Transport) to optimise workflows.
  • Partner with the customer and leadership team to resolve issues, deliver service excellence, and manage expectations.
  • Maintain a clean, organised, audit-ready warehouse environment with disciplined operational routines and standards.

About You

You'll thrive in this role if you have:

  • Strong operations management experience within warehousing, logistics, or fulfilment centres.
  • Proven leadership capability with experience managing supervisors, team leaders, and large operational teams.
  • A background in high-volume, KPI-driven environments where accuracy, speed, and safety are critical.
  • Strong problem-solving and continuous improvement skills, with the ability to drive change in real time.
  • Solid understanding of WMS/ERP systems and strong data & reporting literacy.
  • Excellent communication, influencing, and cross-team collaboration skills.
  • A hands-on, proactive leadership style with the ability to coach, motivate, and develop teams.
  • Experience supporting start-ups, site launches, or major transitions (preferred but not essential).

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary package
  • Key leadership role in a brand-new, high-growth distribution centre
  • Opportunity to shape workflows, build teams, and influence the culture from day one
  • Strong organisational support and access to global best-practice processes
  • Long-term career pathways within a major international logistics network
  • Modern, technology-driven working environment focused on continuous improvement
