Position: Senior Adviser, Communications
Emergency Management Communications
Classification: VPS 5
About the Role
The Senior Adviser, Communications plays a key role in delivering clear, accessible, and effective communication to help keep communities informed and safe before, during, and after emergencies.
This position develops and implements communication strategies, produces a range of materials, and ensures information is tailored to diverse audiences. It also contributes to statewide communication efforts during emergency events.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and implement communication strategies and content across preparedness, response, relief, and recovery phases.
Create and manage materials such as website content, social media posts, fact sheets, media releases, stakeholder packs, and internal updates.
Ensure information is accessible and inclusive, particularly for First Nations, CALD, and diverse communities.
Maintain up-to-date and consistent messaging across all channels.
Build relationships with key stakeholders across government, councils, and community organisations.
Provide communication advice and support to internal teams, executives, and regional offices.
Identify emerging communication risks and help manage reputation issues.
Support the State Communications Manager during emergency activations, which may require after-hours or weekend work.

Technical Skills & Experience
Experience developing and delivering communication strategies, campaigns, and projects.
Strong writing and editing skills for multiple audiences and channels.
Proven stakeholder engagement and collaboration skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects in complex, fast-paced environments.

Qualifications
A tertiary qualification in communications or a related field is highly desirable.
