Our Federal Government client is seeking to engage a suitably qualified or experienced Media Officer for an initial period of 6 months with possible extension, based within Canberra!

The primary purpose of role is to support a large national team by completing a wide range of tasks to assist in deploying campaigns and media strategies. The suitable candidate must have exceptional attention to detail and the ability to work with competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Relevant duties are as followed:

  • Support public relations campaigns with timely, effective media engagement - liaising with newsrooms around the country and working with Agency spokespeople to organise interviews, generate media coverage and disseminate key health messages.
  • Draft basic media materials including speaking points, media responses and releases.
  • Resolve moderately complex enquiries from media stakeholders and provide information and advice as needed, under guidance.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and escalate as needed.
  • Apply judgement, knowledge and discretion in interpreting and applying legislation, instructions, guidelines and procedures.
  • Follow all Agency policies, procedures and instructions and take reasonable care for your own health, safety and wellbeing in the workplace.

Essential requirements

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance at a level designated by the Agency on request
  • Ability to obtain and maintain national police check.
  • Australian Citizenship is a condition of eligibility.
  • Tertiary qualification or experience in journalism or communications.
