Manpower is actively engaged with a State Government department that is now looking for a VPS6 Principal Policy Officer to lead the development of specialist policy analysis and advice within the TAFE Policy & Reform Unit.

This is 2-month VPS 6 role and will commence ASAP.

What to Expect:

  • Provide specialist expertise for policy design
  • Demonstrate the leadership, information and guidance required at the VPS6 level to achieve outcomes and to ensure that these meet compliance requirements
  • Work in partnership with a range of internal and external stakeholders to implement and embed new strategic directions into business plans
  • Play a leading role in the design and development of policy initiatives in the TAFE Policy & Reform Unit

About you:

  • Specialist expertise in Training and TAFE systems and policy
  • Formulates and communicates public policy options and recommendations
  • Keeps up-to-date with a broad range of contemporary issues
  • Liaises with stakeholders
  • Scans for links and potential implications of proposed policy option
  • Finds innovative solutions to resolve stakeholder issues
  • Identifies and responds to stakeholder's underlying needs
  • Identifies issues in common for one or more stakeholders and uses to build mutually beneficial partnerships
  • Uses understanding of the stakeholder's organisational context to ensure outcomes are achieved
  • Proactively seeks more efficient ways of doing things
  • Delivers strategic change through a combination of project and business as usual activity
  • Designs and executes transition plans including risk management strategies
  • Works with business as usual areas to embed change to ensure benefits of the program are realised
  • Entertains wide-ranging possibilities in developing a vision for the future
  • Thinks at the big picture level
  • Translates strategic direction into day-to-day activities
  • Works across a number of timeframes
  • Builds behind-the-scenes support for ideas to ensure buy-in and ownership

    Gains agreement to proposals and ideas
  • Involves experts or other third parties to strengthen a case
  • Uses chains of indirect influence to achieve outcomes (eg 'Gets A to show B so B will tell C')
  • Edits written communications to ensure they contain the information necessary to achieve their purpose
  • Ensures appropriate style and formats are used
  • Prepares complex briefs, letters, emails and reports using clear, concise and grammatically correct language
