A large Victorian State Government Department is currently recruiting for a Policy Officer with previous HR policy experience.

This role requires an experienced professional, providing authoritative high-level strategic policy advice to the Workplace Relations team, Enterprise Agreement Implementation project team, and internal subject matter experts.

Role requirements:

  • Relevant experience in a public policy role. Within the emergency services or health sector desirable.
  • Extensive experience writing and preparing policy documentation.
  • Ability to provide a strategic viewpoint to key organisational matters.
  • Ability to translate operational requirements into policy.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and relationship building skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously and with limited direction.
  • Experience in people related policies (HR/P&C/Industrial)
  • Understanding of Employee Relations/HR agreements

Specific duties:

  • Provide high quality policy advice at both an overarching whole-of-organisation level and at a granular individual document level, with limited direction.
  • Perform a range of policy development activities, assimilate information and adapt quickly to organisational and environmental changes.
  • Prepare complex, high-quality reports, analyses, and briefings on policy issues that may involve complex information from a variety of sources, as required.
  • Complex document reviews including documents mergers, across many and varied topic areas.
  • Provide skilled advice, direction, and coaching to internal document authors and subject matter experts on matters/tasks of moderate complexity.
